The 8 Limbs of Patanjali's Yoga
Location:
The Lotus Loft, Exeter
Date & Time:
July 21st 2012
9.30—11am
Pranayama
Pranayama is the fourth limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. In this session we will explore the subtleties of ‘prana’ (the breath) by introducing and exploring the ancient practice of pranayama.
11-2pm
Asana
Asana is the third limb of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. This session will be taught in a led class style and is an opportunity to explore the methodology of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Primary Series. Emphasis will be given to maintaining the thread of pranayama throughout our exploration of physical forms (posture) and as a way to transform our experience of Hatha Yoga.
3.30-5.30pm
Meditation & Yoga Philosophy
Yoga is more than the continued pursuit of the next challenging posture. Asana (posture) is only a gateway into the real heart of yoga and all its delights. In this session we continue to explore the 8 limbs of yoga as described in ‘The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali’, paying particular attention to meditation.
We will also enquire where our asana practice is leading us and how to establish a regular ‘sitting’ practice.

The 'Art' of Vinyasa
Vinyasa Yoga is a moving meditation: the 'art' of finding stillness in motion. In this session we embark on a 'breath inspired' journey and bring to life the true beauty and grace of vinyasa yoga. By exploring inner alignment and pranayama techniques we will access dormant forces along the core of the body, from which our movements will effortlessly flow.
Suitable for all levels
2.30-5pm
Open Heart, Open Shoulders
From Chaturanga to Urdhva Dhanurasana, much of the challenge we encounter in even the simplest of poses can be traced back to a weakness or tightness in the shoulder girdle. In this workshop we will explore the importance of correct shoulder alignment throughout our practice, paying particular attention to the relationship to pranayama and upper backbends.

Mula Bandha
Mula Bandha is an elusive but essential part of the yoga practice, a conjunction of complementary movement patterns which opens the central axis of the body right up through the root of the palate. This session will explore the activity of mula bandha and the strong grounding effect of correct ujjayi breath. We will flow seamlessly through these movement patterns, following the thread of the central axis itself.
